Sustainability

At the Belize Rainforest Reserve, the protection and preservation of this land and its diverse ecosystem is at the heart of all we do. With sustainability as our guiding principle throughout, every effort will be made to minimize the overall impact on the property and the surrounding area. The majority of the development will take place on land that has already been cleared in the past, in an effort to reduce our environmental footprint.

Solar power will provide all electricity, and houses will incorporate underground geothermal cooling - a natural temperature-controlled air directed to cool the interiors. The sewerage system will use environmentally-friendly anaerobic bacteria to break down waste and rainwater harvesting, along with natural springs and existing wells, will supply water to the Reserve. As a result, the annual operational and maintenance costs will be minimal.

The overall footprint of the Belize Rainforest Reserve will occupy less than 2% of the thousand-acre estate.
